Greek yogurt is probably one of your favorite healthy snacks, as it is rich in protein and calcium.
But this delight is also making a difference in the world of beauty, with many brands incorporating the food into beauty products (like for hair and skin).
And you don’t have to spend a lot to incorporate it into your beauty routine!
Here are five easy DIY treatments starring yogurt that will give you clearer skin and shinier hair.

1 – GREEK YOGURT MASK FOR MORE BEAUTIFUL SKIN
“Greek yogurt is rich in probiotics, which can help minimize acne-related inflammation and redness, and it also increases your skin’s moisture levels,” says Joel Schlessinger, board-certified dermatologist and RealSelf contributor.
Furthermore, the vitamin B present in the product can increase the luminosity of your face.
“Vitamin B protects skin cells from oxidation and free radical damage, keeping skin cells fresh and healthy,” says Cecilia Wong, New York-based esthetician and founder of Cecilia Wong Skincare.
To get these benefits, apply organic Greek yogurt directly to your face, leave it on for 10 minutes like a mask, and then wash it off.

2- GENTLY EXFOLIATE THE DEAD SKIN
“Greek yogurt also contains lactic acid, which acts as a gentle exfoliant when applied to the skin,” explains Wong. Additionally, this ingredient has some anti-aging benefits and helps improve acne as it stimulates the growth of new cells.
Use Greek yogurt as a skin cleansing product in the morning, before putting on makeup. To do this, mix a small amount (e.g. a teaspoon) with a little water and wash your face.

3 – GIVE LIFE TO DRY AND DAMAGED HAIR
When consumed regularly, the proteins in yogurt help strengthen your hair and nails. But what you probably didn’t know is that these same proteins also work wonders when applied topically.
“Greek yogurt is an excellent hair mask,” says Anne Buhrdorf, founder of HAIRGURT, a line of hair products infused with yogurt. “Its creamy consistency and high protein content provides excellent conditioning for dry and damaged hair.”
Follow our recipe for a great hair mask:
- Combine two tablespoons of Greek yogurt with one tablespoon of honey and 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil.
- Apply to hair, leaving for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing.

Greek yogurt not only softens dry hair, it is also a great frizz control, making hair easier to style. “Yogurt smoothes, removes frizz and adds incredible shine,” says Buhrdorf. “And if your hair tangles easily, Greek yogurt can definitely smooth it out.”

“Greek yogurt can definitely help with any dandruff or itchy scalp issues,” says Buhrdorf. This is because it contains enzymes that help fight itching. To make your own anti-dandruff cream, follow this recipe:
- Mix 1/4 cup of yogurt with 1/4 cup of jojoba oil.
- Massage into scalp and hair.
- Put on a shower cap
- Leave the mixture for 10 to 30 minutes
